In keeping with its founding purposes the club supports many community related activities. The club is involved and offers interested youth groups an introduction to fly-fishing and fly tying as well.
The Covid pandemic has impacted all of us for a long time now. Hopefully, cooperation with the medical community’s suggestions will bring an end to this. In the mean time until that happens, we continue to prepare for the eventual resumption of our Fly-Fishing Merit Badge instruction program with the Scouting Units of our area. Within TCFF we have a group of certified Merit Badge Counselors that bring their fly-fishing expertise to youngsters who have a genuine interest in learning our sport. Fishing in general is enjoyed by most youngsters but fly-fishing carries a stigma of being too expensive to get started with. We dispel that myth by presenting this program with no cost to any participant in the program.
We have not yet had a chance to work with groups in the Scout Camp environment. The focus there is on Merit Badge advancement opportunities and our program there should prove to be very popular as this has been my experience in the past. The fact is besides the service we provide to these youth members, we are helping insure the continuation of the sport of fly-fishing. Making this activity accessible to the next generation depends to a great extent on the interest we can generate in that group now. It is a win, win situation all around. If you are interested in helping in this effort, please let us know.
