Welcome to the Tri-County Fly Fishers Club Website.
Tri-County Fly Fishers Club is a not for profit Club whose members have a true love for fly-fishing. We welcome anyone who wants to learn how to fly fish and gain experience in the art of fly tying; and become an active member of the fly-fishing Club.
This Club is made up of about eighty members from beginners to those with 50+ years of fly-fishing and tying experi-ence. Fishing interests range from bluegills and bass to redfish and tarpon, with an occasional rainbow or brown trout from up north or out west thrown in. Today, membership is drawn from permanent and seasonal residents of those in and around the Florida counties of Lake, Sumter and Marion.

May 2016 Presidents Message

Welcome to our Tri-County Fly Fishers website. I think it’s safe to say, while not official, summer weather is upon us. While it’s been hot and somewhat steamy here, I just returned from a short trip to Colorado where it was 33 degrees and dumping up to 2 feet of snow in the high country! With this hot weather comes the annual migration north of...

Welcome to our Tri-County Fly Fishers website. Our Club is an organization of men and women with many different backgrounds and convictions. Our connection is an intense interest in the sport of fly fishing. We have varying degrees of expertise in the sport and are eager to learn and teach as we continue to develop our skills. Many members have immense fly fishing knowledge and skills, and they are happy to share.

Our main focus of course, is fishing. Our Club organizes and conducts informal weekly outings. We target warm water fish species here in Florida, and salt-water species on the Gulf, East coast and South Florida. Many of us fish in the far reaches of the United States and the world for that matter.

Another huge aspect at the heart of our Club is the teaching and instruction of fly fishing, not only to members, but to children as well. This includes: tying flies and fly casting mostly. We started the TCFF Fly Casters and the TCFF Fly Tying groups which meet monthly and always have a great turnout. We are involved in various community outreach activities where we donate our time and resources to organizations requesting our help and expertise.

Another major focus is providing good quality speakers and presentations at our evening meetings. Our informative and educational presentations have included presentations on fly fishing Louisiana for bull redfish, kayak fishing Crystal River and fly fishing for Shad on the St. Johns River. Communication is also very important and I feel that In addition to providing “what’s happening” in the Club, our website is one of the best fly fishing Club websites on the net in providing excellent information related to our sport to our members.

Lastly, our Club social activities build comradery and it’s always a fun time when we get together. We kick off the year in January with our Winterfest social. Club members and wives enjoy a catered dinner and prize raffle and entertainment. We hold our Club picnic and bar-b-que typically in March complete with door prizes and a Club casting competition. I invite you to come check us out! Meeting locations and times can be found on our home page under “Meetings”.

October 2016 Presidents Message

Welcome back!  Can someone please tell me where the year went? It seems like just a couple of months ago we were planning the Club events and outings for the 2016.  And so it begins again. The board is already meeting to strategize and begin planning for 2017 activities, events and trips. So, we’re back at it again in full swing. Stay tuned.

My wife and I just returned from a 16 day vacation in Tuscany, Italy in which...

November 2016 Presidents Message

Guess what? As of this writing, Christmas is only 60 days away! Having said that, it’s not too early to get your Christmas “wish list” ready, especially when it comes to fly fishing! I know some of you “older guys” (and women) don’t get out as often as you would like or, not at all for that matter, but for those of you who do, there are lots of items to add to your list, not only for yourself, but for friends, family or maybe the Club President? Here are a few great gift ideas...

December 2016 Presidents Message

Season’s Greetings and Happy Holiday’s! Welcome and thanks to all members who have chosen to be part of the Tri -County Fly Fishers Club.  It was an honor to serve as your President for a second term. Thank you.  As I’ve said in the past, I am surrounded by a great Board of Directors and coordinators that are all very passionate about our sport and our Club and I’d like to take this opportunity to personally say “thank you” for all their hard work again this year.

I always like to take the time at the end of the year to reflect on the successes of the Club. Our focus this year was not...

January 2017 Presidents Message

Welcome. Happy New Year and thanks to all members who have chosen to be part of the Tri-County Fly Fishers Club. Did any of you make any New Year’s resolutions this year? If so, you're taking part in a tradition that stretches back thousands of years. I found some interesting facts on the internet. “A New Year's resolution is a tradition, most common in...

February 2017 Presidents Message

Welcome. We are in the process of membership renewal and we are off to a great start this year. Jim reports that membership for 2017 so far has been strong with dues collected from about 69% of our membership base from last year, including our life, honorary and 85+ year old members. So that is exciting! As a reminder, those not current by the March 1 business meeting will be locked out of the website and membership roster. Dues for 2017 are...

Colorado State Record Tiger Trout

Colorado State Record Tiger Trout

Ok, so I’m a proud papa and a little excited! Being fellow fly fisherman, I thought you all would like to see this. Last October, one of my boys Trevor, also an avid fly fisherman living in Denver, Colorado, had the opportunity to fish over in Paonia, CO at the Bar ZX Ranch. He caught the largest trout he’s ever landed to date, a Tiger Trout, that just so happened to be a state record for length (as opposed to weight) for a catch and release fish in the state designated by the Colorado Division of Wildlife.

He received recognition for his catch last month. The fish measured out at 28” in length and was caught on a size 18, Gold Beadhead Prince Nymph. So his name and fish is in the Colorado record books and I’m a proud papa. Pretty cool! Check out the photos attached. You can read more about the program at http://cpw.state.co.us/learn/Pages/RecordsbyLength.aspx
