April 2018 Presidents Message

Welcome! March was a very busy month for our Club. We held 18th annual TCFF Club picnic at Wooten Park in Tavares and I’m happy to report that it was a success! Barry Palmer headed up this event and he and his crew did a fabulous job in coordinating the venue, food, activities, prizes and raffle. We probably had 63 or 65 members and spouses attend. The food was great and the weather couldn’t be better! Several members tried their hand at chipping and fly casting and we had several winners. Russ showed off his kayak and gave a short talk on kayak fishing for those interested. I personally want to thank the following people for their help in putting on this event (If I miss anyone, I apologize in advance) Barry Palmer, Felix Nieves, Russ Kucinski, Don Jackson, Mike Carragher, Bob Levin, David Moreland, Marilee Elias, Mike Winter, Steve Lusen, Doug Dombek, Chris Lyndrup and Ron Schauster.

For those of you that have returned from your summer lairs, welcome back and I hope that you all had a great summer. For those of you not here yet, hurry up and get down here, we miss you!

We’re kicking off the fall with our business breakfast meeting on Wednesday, September 5 at Pennbrooke Fairways. I’ll run down what’s going on in the next few months and what we have to look forward to in 2019 at the meeting.

Welcome! We’re finally back into our regularly scheduled Club meetings, events and activities through the end of the year.  Activities are heating up in the Club and hopefully cooling down with our weather.     Cooler weather is just around the corner and with that comes better fishing conditions…we hope!

We had a great showing at our September business breakfast meeting on the 5th at Pennbrooke Fairways...

December 2018 Presidents Message

Welcome! I suspect you all are getting ready for the holidays? Some of you may be traveling to enjoy family and friends. Some of you will be staying put in the warmer weather. Whatever you do, travel safe, enjoy the family and have a great holiday season and a very Happy New Year!

There are lots going on with the Club in the next couple of months. I’ll be traveling so I will rely on Bob to keep you all updated. First off, there WILL be a breakfast meeting this month on Wednesday, December 5 at Pennbrooke Fairways. There will be NO December evening meeting however. Furthermore, due to the holiday, the January business meeting has been changed from January 2nd to January 9th. The location is still the same; Pennbrooke Fairways Golf Club. Then the January evening meeting will be the Winterfest Holiday Dinner on January 16. Tickets are $10.00 per person this year. The Board is asking that if you are planning on attending, please pay beforehand so that we can give the caterer a count so we have enough food! At the very least please register on the website and pay at the door!

There are several events coming up in the next couple of months and we could sure use some volunteers. If you are interested in helping out please let Bob Heinbach know or register on the website.

o   December 4, January 7, and February 5 the TCFF Fly Tying Group will meet in room 162 at the Sumter County Service Center on the corner of CR-466A & Powell Rd from 2-4pm. Come on out and tie some flies.

o   December 7 & 8 is the Renzetti Fly Fishing and Rod Building Fair in Titusville, FL. Anybody who is anybody (so I’m told) in the world of fly fishing in Florida will be there.

o   January 16, 2019 we will kick off the New Year with our Winterfest holiday party at Wildwood Community Center. Tickets are $10 per person.

o   February 9, 2019 is the Lake County Sheriff’s Bass Tournament at Hickory Point Recreation Complex from 11am-6pm.

o   February 20, 2019 evening presentation is titled ‘Bridges, Dock Lights, & Grass Flats - Night Fishing the Gulf Coast’ with guide Brian Boehm.

o   February 23 and 24 we will once again participate in The Villages Outdoor Expo.

o   March 2 & 3, 2019 is the Florida Springs Fest at Silver Springs State Park in Ocala.

o   Lastly, our TCFF Club picnic will be on March 27, 2019 at Wooten Park in Tavares. See Barry Palmer if you are interested in helping.

July 8, 2014...Inaugural Scallop trip to Homasassa

The club inaugural scallop trip was a success!  Six of us went and six of us returned. No one drowned.  We even got some scallops with a lot of help from Raenee the first mate. We had enough scallops to go to a local restaurant for a great meal.

Venetian Gardens a Place to Reconsider For Future Freshwater Trips

This is a place we need to strongly reconsider for future freshwater trips or just an alternative to our Bass and Bagels at the pond. The area is just beautiful with lots of room to cast. It is an excellent place to teach basic casting and advanced types of casts i.e.. curve cast, roll cast, tuck cast and even long distance casting. You can even do target casting to specific areas. The fishing is slow this time of year but, I had a great time trying many different casts.
