Welcome to the Tri-County Fly Fishers Club website. We are a Social Club consisting of men and women with many different backgrounds and convictions connected by an intense interest in the sport of fly fishing. We have varying degrees of expertise in the sport and are eager to learn and teach as we continue to develop our skills. The Club is made up of about ninety members from beginners to those with 60+ years of fly-fishing and tying experience. Many members have immense fly-fishing knowledge and skills, and they are happy to share.
Tri-County Fly Fishers Club membership is drawn from permanent and seasonal residents of those in and around the Florida counties of Lake, Sumter, and Marion. Our focus of course, is fishing. Our Club organizes and conducts informal weekly outings. We target warm water fish species here in Florida, and salt-water species on the Gulf, East coast and South Florida. Many of us fish in the far reaches of the United States and around the world.
At the heart of our Club is the teaching and instruction of fly fishing to new members and the public at large. This includes tying flies and fly casting. Each February, the Club demonstrates these disciplines to the public at The Villages Outdoor Expo. Each April, our partner, Jon Cave through his Performance Fly Fishing School, offers a fly-casting refresher to our Club members, new and seasoned alike. Additionally, we have a TCFF Fly Casters and a TCFF Fly Tying group which meet monthly and always have a great turnout. Our relationship with Grand Oaks Resort in Weirsdale, FL allows us an opportunity to fish the private ponds on property for largemouth bass.
The club provides quality speakers and presentations at our afternoon meetings. Our informative and educational presentations have included presentations on fly fishing Louisiana for bull redfish, New Zealand trout fishing, kayak fishing Crystal River, and fly fishing for Shad on the St. Johns River.
Lastly, our Club social activities build comradery and it’s always a fun time when we get together. We kick off the year in January with our Winterfest social. Club members and spouses enjoy dinner, prize raffles, and entertainment. We hold our Club picnic and bar-b-que typically in March complete with door prizes and a Club casting competition.
